Exquisite wedding dresses at V&A's bridal exhibition

What is it about wedding dresses that are so interesting? Is it because they have such a romantic tradition attached to them? Or is it because it's a fascinating insight into the bride's personality? Or perhaps it's because we just like looking at pretty dresses (if we're honest, it's probably the last one).

Whatever your reason for looking at exquisite gowns, the V&A's new exhibition, which is showcasing some of the most spectacular bridal frocks from over the last 200 or so years, will satiate all your wedding dress needs.

From Kate Moss' Galliano creation to the Duchess of Cornwall's modest Anna Valentine silk coat, with Philip Treacy headdress, you can also take a look at Gwen Stefani's bold white and dip-hem pink gown, as well as Dita Von Teese's deep purple frock she wore to her wedding to Marilyn Manson.

The exhibition traces the development of the fashionable white wedding dress and includes 80 of the most romantic, glamorous and extravagant wedding outfits, offering a panorama of fashion over the last two centuries.

The exhibition opens May 3, vam.ac.uk

John Galliano designed singer Gwen Stefani's dress. In an interview with The Telegraph, she said she didn't want to send it but then she realised that "it's a work of art, it needed to be seen".
