Victoria Beckham wins fashion award

Victoria Beckham , along with Alexander McQueen and Mulberry, was just one of the British brands honoured at last night's 2011 Walpole Awards.

The annual award ceremony, held in London last night, celebrates the excellence of British brands in the luxury sector both in Britain and abroad. Victoria Beckham's eponymous line beat off shoe label Charlotte Olympia, fragrance house Ormonde Jayne and Osman- the brand loved by first ladies Samantha Cameron and Michelle Obama - to nab the award for Best Emerging Luxury Brand. Mulberry took home the British Luxury Overseas award while Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was awarded the British Luxury Design Talent award.

This lauded award marks an incredible year for the mum-of-four whose label is said to be on course for a £60million turnover for 2011. Not bad for a label that began in 2008 with a small salon style presentation. There was an initial disdain at the idea of a former Spice Girl turning her hand to luxury fashion but Beckham won the notoriously hard-nosed fashion pack and now has everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Eva Longoria sporting her dresses and bags. Her catwalk show has become the hottest ticket on the New York Fashion Week calender. Earlier this year she launched a secondary - lower priced - line Victoria by Victoria Beckham.
