Vivienne Westwood is a designer renowned for pushing the boundaries and promoting new concepts.

To mark the opening of London Fashion Week (February 18) she’ll be revealing her new precious jewellery collection that she’s designed for Palladium at the Wallace Collection.

If you haven’t heard of Palladium yet, you will. It’s a precious, rare metal from the platinum family and what makes it so special is that it’s a white metal which is naturally white for a lifetime, and it’s extremely light and strong, meaning that more intricate pieces can be made from it and it’s capable of bearing large gemstones. With the Grand Dame of British fashion choosing this metal for her first serious precious jewellery collection and Giles Deacon judging a design competition at Central Saint Martins in March for it, we’re expecting big things.

Westwood’s collection is a range of one-off couture pieces and ready-to-wear designs with a very important message – to respect the planet. As well as being a British fashion institution, she’s also known for being a big environmentalist and her Palladium Get A Life jewellery collection incorporates this. Pieces include elements inspired by the need to act, affect, preserve and allow our environment to flourish, so she uses nature and symbols of paganism throughout - the acorn, oak tree and heart all feature prominently. They’re said to represent strength, luck, power and hope for change. And on some selected pieces they’ll have “Do It Yourself” engraved on them, which is her slogan for a call for action.

These pieces are limited edition and will go on sale at selected Vivienne Westwood stores after the Fashion Week unveiling. Better get in the queue.
