The Zara jacket everyone's wearing on Instagram right now

Every once in a while, an item of high street clothing makes the leap from popular to ubiquitous.

The internet, as with so many things, helps. You’re scrolling through your Instagram feed one day when you notice two women, in quick succession, wearing a certain piece from Topshop or Whistles or Cos. A few days later, your colleague comes in wearing the same thing. “Hm,” you think to yourself. “That’s funny.”

And before too long, you’re seeing it everywhere: in your local coffee shop, on the street, in the pub, on the bus. In special cases, the item gets its very own Instagram feed, and its omnipresence is secured.

Ubiquity happened to this blue and white Zara coat, and this green puffa from Urban Outfitters. Now, it’s coming for another high street jacket – and it’s another Zara piece that’s everywhere on Instagram.

Unlike its instantly-recognisable predecessors, however, this lovely bit of outerwear is pretty discreet.

A black mock-leather aviator jacket with a faux-fur collar, it straddles the boundary between low-key and statement piece nicely.

Best of all, it’s pretty much guaranteed not to go out of style for a good while yet. Shearling and leather jackets and faux-fur collars have been popping up everywhere from Marc Jacobs and Coach to Calvin Klein and Diane Von Furstenberg at New York Fashion Week – so while it might seem counterintuitive to buy a leather jacket as we move towards springtime, this one will last you well into next season and beyond.
