Photographer Simon Annand has spent 25 years backstage in London's West End, disappearing into the domain of make-up artists and stage-hands to immortalise the most intimate moment in theatreland: the half.

'The half' is the half hour before an actor or actress goes on stage. It's normally a time for solitary reflection but Annand's unobtrusive style has allowed him access to the theatrical A-list, including Dame Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes as well as Sienna Miller and Rachel Weisz. Following on from his 2008 book The Half (£20, Faber&Faber) and the subsequent exhibition, Annand is back with a brand new exhibition at the Idea Generation Gallery in London from 24 February.
