From hot new gastro experiences to must-watch TV, books that we just can't put down and an enthusiastic '90s R 'n' B revival, these are the things that team Stylist are obsessed with right now...

Our friends at Emerald Street assure us that the '70s social favourite, the wine and cheese party, is back with a vengeance. Editor Anna Fielding says, "Everyone brings a cheese and a bottle, the host provides both, plus crackers, bread and space. It’s great for friends of all incomes and easy to organise. Put everything on a table and sail in." Stuffing ourselves with brie and Merlot never felt so chic.

When we're old ladies, we want to look as cool as the women photographed by Ari Seth Cohen for his blog, Advanced Style. Their unashamed use of colour, pattern and accessories is an inspiration to fashionistas of all ages, and now there's a book and a movie to accompany the blog, we can enjoy their spectacular wardrobes even more.

Stylist's online editorial assistant Lauren Smith says, “Take one disused car park, add the crew behind cult burger van The Meatwagon, sprinkle in a controversial no bookings policy and a generous serving of food blog hype and you’ve got MeatLiquor –the hippest burger joint in London. Unassumingly tucked away behind Oxford Street, MeatLiquor feels like a a Brooklyn dive bar, with low lighting, loud music, tattooed waitresses and menus in typewriter face. But underneath all the studied cool lies the best dose of greasy Americana you’ll find in the city. Brave the long queues (our tip is to go mid-week, before 7pm, or after 9pm) and you’ll be rewarded with messy, gooey, unbelievably delicious burgers, piles of chilli fries, and probably the best chicken wings we’ve eaten, with a side of Blue Cheese sauce. Wash it all down with a strong cocktail, or go nostalgic with a sickly sweet Coke Float." meatliquor.com

Stylist's Beauty Director Jo McGarry is obsessed with Homeland, describing it as "A gritty post-911, post-Iraq suspense drama circled around the return of a US marine, turned Iraqi POW [played by Damian Lewis]. Carrie Mathieson, Clare Danes’ character and CIA operative is convinced he was ‘turned’ during his imprisonment and this rattly, fast-moving thriller races to find that out. Plenty of opportunity to pick up some political/military lingo too." Homeland is one of our cult shows to know for 2012.

Female comic book artists are often unfairly overlooked in 'best of' lists, but one major new talent who deserves success is Karrie Fransman. Her cartoons have appeared in the Times and the Guardian and she's just published her first graphic novel, The House that Groaned (£14.99, Square Peg). The beautifully evocative illustrations remind us of the work of Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) and Alison Bechdel (Fun Home), but the darkly funny story - a tale of urban alienation, hungry women and sexuality - is uniquely Fransman's.

Who has more problems than a first world cat? No-one, that's who. The self-indulgent mewlings of these angst-ridden kitties have got us LOLing all over the place and casting knowing glances at our own pampered pets. icanhascheezburger.com

When the going gets tough, the tough... make preserves? Apparently so. Michelle Blond is a fan of Delia's no-nonsense recipe for redcurrant jelly which she assures us is ridiculously easy and delivers delicious results.

It started with 'R 'n' B Friday' but now every day we find ourselves listening to '90s classics like Jodeci's Get On Up, SWV's Right Here and yes, a little bit of Montel Jordan too. Maybe it's the fact that we're going through a major wave of nostalgia for all things '90s at the moment, or just that they're damn good songs, either way, the Stylist office is a pretty funky place right now.

We love Persephone Books - they are responsible for putting forgotten classics like Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day back in the spotlight - and our most recent Persephone read is Good Evening Mrs Craven by Mollie Panter-Downes. This collection of short stories set in England during WW2 is written in a deceptively simple style that subtly conveys the countless personal tragedies that were experienced by women at the time.

Features Editor Collette Lyons has been raving about Pennie's Vintage, describing it as selling "beautiful, actually very well priced vintage. They have lots of 1920s stuff, so it's great for this season and the lady who runs it (Penny Ross) is properly lovely." 41A, Amwell Street, London, EC1R penniesvintage.com

This is, in our humble opinion, the coolest restaurant in London right now. Hidden behind Goodge Street station, reservations for the industrial-chic eatery are already filling up as far as late summer, although if you’re lucky, you will still be able to get a seat. The moody, concrete-clad basement bar serves some of the best cocktails around (try the delicious sloe gin punch) in the prettiest antique cut glasses, and even the bar snacks are a cut above (give the crispy chicken wings with fenugreek and toasted garlic a go – we dare you not to order a second bowl). It’s the restaurant upstairs though that’s really winning plaudits, overseen by the ridiculously handsome Ollie Dabbous, formerly of Michelin-starred Texture (keep watch, as he peeks out the kitchen to spy on happy guests). The seven-course tasting menu – a relative bargain at £49, given the quality of the food – is as easy on the eye as it is on the palette. Highlights included the rich barbecued iberico pork, savoury acorn praline, turnip tops, homemade apple vinegar and the delicate and gorgeous salad of fennel, lemon balm and pickled rose petals – we had no idea a salad could be so exciting. The wine is incredibly well-priced too. Two words: Book. Now. Dabbous,39 Whitfield St, London, W1T 2SF. 0207 323 1544. dabbous.co.uk Collette Lyons, Features Editor.

Pinterest hit 10 million users in the US faster than any website in HISTORY. That’s pretty impressive. But what is it and why is it so popular? It’s a virtual pinboard that allows you to pin things you like to your profile –so basically a way to show how cool and in the know you are. But I love Pinterest because it’s an easy (and incredibly addictive) way to fund cool stuff online – and so Stylist have set one up at pinterest.com/stylistmagazine – come and follow us. Look forward to seeing your pins…

This cult show from the US follows a mismatched group of students at a Community College in the US, who form a Spanish study group and become friends. Led by smooth talking lawyer Jeff, the show is full of one-liners as funny as 30 Rock (sample line: Jeff: "Hey, Troy sneezes like a girl." Troy: "And how 'bout I pound you like a boy! That didn't come out right") and some slightly surreal moments (a bit like Teachers when it got weird) – including one scene where the whole college becomes involved in a paintball siege.

Anna Brech, Stylist’s online writer, was initially a bit scared about take up kickboxing for her Olympics challenge blog. But now she can’t get enough of a sport that promises to tone your body and burn 830 calories in one hour - even if she still can’t straighten her legs. “Kickboxing is an amazing way to get fit,” she says. “I’m so busy kicking and punching, I don’t even realise I’m breaking a sweat.”

She broke out onto the music scene with club track 212 in November 2011, but this year Azealia Banks is set to go stellar. The former theatre kid turned MC is already a fashion darling – her music provided the soundtrack to the Mugler show, she performed at Karl Lagerfeld’s house and is mates with top model Cara Delevingne. She’s recording her debut album with Florence and the Machine’s producer Paul Epworth, and she’s all over Twitter.
