34-year-old woman arrested for posing as a teenager

drewwashingtonpost.jpg

In a story that's not totally unlike Never Been Kissed (you know, the one where Drew Barrymore goes back to high school, even though she's in her 20s), a 34-year-old woman has been arrested after posing as a high school student.

By now you've probably guessed that the story doesn't end the same way as Drew's character Josie Geller, who falls in love with a teacher and everything ends all lovely.

In this case, the woman, who was going by the name Charite Stevens, real name Charity Anne Johnson, was posing as a 15-year-old teenager when really she was in her 30s.

She had enrolled at the New Life Christian School, a private institution in Longview, as a homeschooled student who wanted to transfer to a school back in October 2013.

However, Johnson's story unraveled when a friend she was staying with (who also believed Johnson's story) wanted her to leave her home.

Tamica Lincoln called police and told them she no longer wanted Johnson in her home. Johnson was then arrested after she gave them a false name and birth date.

According to jail records, Johnson is 31, although police later told US media the woman is instead 34.

The principal of the school where Johnson was studying, Stuart Newlin, said no one ever questioned her story and that she'd originally filled out her enrolment paperwork with a guardian in October.

In a statement he said: "She acted like a 15, 16-year-old. She was an attentive student, respectful, did her homework."

"The why? Nobody seems to know why."
