60s fashion stars in new BBC drama

Sixties style abounds in an epic new drama from the BBC, tracing the lives of seven friends from 1965 to the present day.

White Heat is created by award–winning screenwriter Paula Milne - the brains behind 2009 movie Endgame - and, as these first photos show, features a dazzling array of retro looks.

Starring Claire Foy and Sam Claflin, the series follows seven students from their flat-sharing days in London's Tufnell Park in the 1960s to today.

It looks at how each character's life and destiny changes amid a backdrop of evolving political landscapes: from anti-Vietnam protests to the Thatcher years and the end of the Cold War.

The 60s outfits are fierce, but Claire Foy - most recently seen in Upstairs Downstairs - says 70s was her favourite period to film, costume-wise.

"'70s, because I get to wear trousers. That's it, really!" she told Digital Spy. "And the rest of the time the skirts are just quite short and it's a bit embarrassing. But yes, definitely '70s. I don't know, I wear less make up and try less hard."

White Heat starts on BBC2 on Thursday at 9pm.
