Cook Christmas dinner in live time with GBBO’s Nadiya Hussain

Thanks to The Great British Bake Off, we’ve been introduced to a plethora of talented bakers from across the UK – but Nadiya Hussain is, by far, one of the most beloved GBBO contestants.

Which is why, when we heard she was cooking up a Christmas feast at home and wants us all to attend, we were incredibly excited.

However, before you start planning which Christmas jumper you’re going to wear, there’s a catch. Because Nadiya’s invite, to paraphrase Shakespeare’s Julius Caeser, goes something along the lines of: “Friends, bakers, Christmas fans; lend me your ears!”

The savvy chef is teaming up with Radio 2 to record a special cooking show, which will see Nadiya create culinary delights such as salmon kedgeree and her infamous gingerbread cake. And, as it’s all being done in real-time, listeners will be able to follow the recipes along at home; cue a delicious homemade Christmas spread with minimum effort for maximum effect (all with a dash of Nadiya’s magic).

During the show, she will be joined by Olly Smith, who’ll quiz her all about fun topics, such as baking, books, her day-to-day life, and her family – and he’ll also be encouraging her to let rip with her favourite songs to create a festive playlist for listeners at home.

But things promise to get pretty deep when the pair discuss her decision to remain loyal to the BBC, and Nadiya addresses Bake Off’s impending move to Channel 4.

We’re sold.

Nadiya says: “My birthday is on Christmas Day so it’s always a big day in my house as we usually all gather for a huge feast!

“It’ll be great fun giving Radio 2 listeners lots of tips and recipes as they prepare for the festivities, plus I’m really looking forward to welcoming Olly to my home.”

Nadiya’s Festiva Family Feast will air on 21 December at 8pm – and it promises to be two hours of slicing, dicing, and enticing food-based chit-chat. Fingers crossed it’ll help us get on top of our Crimbo prep…
