A cat pub exists and it's right here in the UK

If you’re after the purr-fect place to kickback with an ale or two, then head to The Bag of Nails, a delightful little drinking spot which also happens to be home to 15 cuddly kittens and cats.

That’s right, an actual cat pub exists where locals are invited to dine, drink and socialise all while petting the Inn's feline friends as they laze about on the bar stools and tables like they own the place - as cats often do.

Although based in Bristol, it’s enough to reel in cat lovers from all over the country, judging by the positive reviews it’s received, alongside a feed of 'aww'-inducing cat snaps on Instagram.

The pub's landlord, Luke Daniels, told The Bristol Post:

"The reaction is mostly positive. Occasionally you might have some people walking in and leaving and some might be allergic to cats but people love it."

Comments on social media go along the lines of:

“Kitten and a pint on a Sunday... What more do u need #bagofnails#bestpubinbristol”

“Found my new favourite drinking buddies #catpub #kittensontoast#bagofnails”

“Best pub in Bristol! Great ale, good music and kittens sleeping on the bar!#bagofnails #catsofinstagram”

The RSPCA's response hasn't been as positive, however, as they told The Telegraph:

"Interaction between people and cats can be of huge benefit to both human and animal, but we of course always ask for consideration for their welfare.

"Some cats might not enjoy being handled by strangers and generally we do not recommend keeping a lot of cats in one place.

"We certainly wouldn't recommend drinkers sharing their favourite tipple with the cats, as alcohol is a poison which can cause them serious harm and suffering.

"If people want to have the companionship of a pet, we would recommend people go to their nearest rescue centre instead and meet some of the cats looking for new homes."

Do you agree that it's more cruel than cute?

The Bag of Nails website stresses that they're not just about their furry little friends. Their Vinyl-only music policy gives the bar a unqiue atmosphere, with guests invited to bring along favourites from their collection to listen to while visiting.

The pub is described as a “small Freehouse near to central Bristol” that serves five cask ales on draught and two farmhouse ciders, but steers clear of “draught lagers, fizzy ciders [and] Guinness” - worth bearing in mind if they are your drinks of choice.

As exciting as it is, this isn't the only cat haven in the nation, with the Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in Shoreditch, London, being home to 10 adorable cats, too. The café, which opened last year, states that it's on a mission to “provide a calm, quiet and unhurried space in a busy city, where people can be people and cats can be cats.”

Due to its obvious popularity, visitors are encouraged to book a 90-minute session in advance to avoid disappointment. At The Bag Of Nails pub, however, any cat-lover is free to drop in any time.
