A sushi and gin bus tour is coming to London this summer

Forget bland cucumber sandwiches. Throw your jammy scones to the wind. Relinquish your clutch on that pot of clotted cream.

Because a fresh new concept coming to London this summer has thrown open the rule book on afternoon teas.

The patisserie masters at Brigit’s Bakery are mixing things up by combining two very on-trend delights – sushi and gin.

In a spectacular show of culinary imagination, they’ll be hosting tours aboard a 1960 Routemaster London bus next month, complete with delectable gin cocktails and sushi treats from former Gordon Ramsay chef Gohei Kishi.

Gin and sushi: two of our favourite things

Kishi, who is famed for his modern approach to sushi, will dish out delicacies such as snow crab Chawanmushi – an egg and dashi custard served hot with snow crab, wakame, shimeji and shiitake – alongside salmon nigiri, shrimp tempura and white quinoa salad.

Desserts include green tea Swiss rolls, jasmine macarons and strawberry tartlets.

And of course, they’ll be plenty of gin along the way, too.

The bus that dreams are made on...

Brigit’s Bakery is best known for its traditional afternoon tea bus tours in both London and Bath.

And while their innovative sushi-and-gin spin is similar, it doesn’t actually take place in the afternoon. Instead, it will run every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening in August from 8pm.

The riotous ride begins in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, and meanders around some of the capital’s best-known sights – including Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, the Royal Albert Hall and Notting Hill.

Tickets cost £65 a pop, and the journey lasts around an hour and a half; more than enough time to load up on all the sumptuous sushi you could possibly eat…
