Angelina Jolie breaks silence on Brad Pitt child abuse investigations

Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt on 20 September, sending the world’s media into a tailspin.

It was later confirmed that she had asked law enforcement services to investigate an incident in September between Pitt and her eldest son, Maddox, on a private jet. This argument, she said at the time, had ended with Pitt intentionally (and without justification) striking the boy.

The Department of Children and Family Services have now completed their investigation, and have cleared Pitt of child abuse.

Reacting to the news, Jolie released a statement saying that she was “relieved” that the family could all now move on with their lives.

“Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family and is relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal,” her rep told TMZ.com.

Her comments came shortly after Pitt, 52, made his first red carpet appearance following his late September split from the actress, philanthropist and director.

Joining Marion Cotillard at the Los Angeles premiere of their WWII drama, Allied, Pitt made sure to spend a lot of time with his fans – and thanked them all for their “kindness” over the past few weeks.

He told E! News: “It's really sweet, everyone has been really kind out here. It's really nice to have all the support.”

Jolie originally cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her separation from her husband.

Shortly after the couple announced their intention to divorce, her attorney Robert Offer released a statement that read: "Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family.

"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Pitt also released his own statement to People, saying: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

TMZ, who broke the news, reported that Jolie has requested physical custody of their six children - Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 15, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 12, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 11, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.
