Formidable American Vogue editor Anna Wintour threw an extravagant wedding for her son Charlie Shaffer to Elizabeth Cordry, at her Long Island estate on Saturday.

Shaffer, 28, a third year medical student at Columbia University, tied the knot with 27-year-old Elizabeth Cordry at the Wintour's mid 19th-century American white clapboard weekend home known as 'Mastic'.

While the intimate wedding was a private affair, guests which consisted of designers, photographers, and Vogue staff offered us a sneak peak into the big day via Instagram using the hashtag #thismasticmoment.

The groom’s sister, Bee Shaffer, posted a picture of the Bride's Oscar de la Renta gown with the caption "always a bridesmaid". Shaffer herself wore a Prada dress and it is thought Anna Wintour wore Chanel, although there are no pictures of her at the event.

The wedding party also included best man Nick Brown, bridesmaids in Prada, and six flower girls in matching Alexander McQueen dresses.

Guests were serenaded by a string quartet which played from a tree-house during the ceremony.

Designer Prabal Gurung attended the ceremony and shared a picture of the couple exchanging their vows in the 42-acre estate’s garden overlooking the Forge River. "Here's to forever!! Mr & Mrs. Shaffer," wrote Gurung.

In Vogue's January editor’s letter, Anna Wintour mentioned the wedding while promoting a story about sugar heiress Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler.

“I can only hope my own Long Island gardens are as exquisite as Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler’s when my son, Charlie, gets married in June,' she wrote.

The newlyweds danced under the night sky at the outdoor reception, where British-born DJ Chelsea Leyland is said to have performed.

A day later, best man Nick Brown posted a picture of the floral centerpieces collated on a table.

Ahead of their honeymoon, Liz Shaffer (née Cordry) posted a selfie with her new hubby, captioned, "Tired but happy! En route to the Rockies... Thanks so much to everyone who made last night so special!"

The couple met at Oxford University, from which they graduated.
