Bake Off’s Candice Brown opens up about post-GBBO career: “I went to work today”

The Great British Bake Off aired its final episode on the BBC last week, with an average of 14 million people tuning in to watch Candice Brown beat Andrew Smyth and Jane Beedle be crowned the winner.

It was the show’s highest overnight audience ever.

But, despite her newfound fame, Candice has revealed that she hasn’t let it turn her head.

In fact, she recently admitted that she’s gone back to school to continue her career as a P.E. teacher.

Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards, the GBBO star told OK! Magazine: “It’s been one big whirlwind, it’s the only way I can describe it.

“The last few days have been crazy, we did some book signings, spent some time with Andrew and Jane which was amazing.

“I had some time with my family over the weekend and I went back to work today.”

She added: “It was straight in teaching lessons so yeah this is normal.”

Candice went on to explain that she actually hasn’t baked anything for a while – and that she’s starting to miss it terribly.

“I’d actually like to do a bit of baking,” she told them.

However, while Candice has her feet firmly on the ground, she’s allowed herself to dream a little bit.

With a rumoured line of lipsticks in the works, not to mention a cookbook of her own, she’s got a lot to look forward to.

And let’s not forget her dreams of a baking road trip spin-off TV show with Jane, shall we?

Speaking to Digital Spy, she admitted that those dreams could soon become a reality.

She told the publication: “[Jane and I] talk all the time about going to France.

“We've both got a love of France - and we just [thought] yeah it'd be really good.

“I love markets. I'd probably wind her up by buying something massive that wouldn't fit in the car and she'd moan at me. I'm sure we'll probably get a little trip away.

“We speak about it all the time - and all the other bakers as well! It could be a really good giggle.”

When asked if she fancied her own solo cooking show – in a similar vein to that of Bake Off’s Nadiya Hussain and her two-part BBC special The Chronicles of Nadiya – Candice remained coy.

“At the moment I've got no idea! I don't think my feet have touched the ground,” she said.

“I'm struggling to remember my own name, I think!”

She added: “I'm really looking forward to the next little while.”

Sounds like perfect fodder for a new TV series, wouldn’t you say?

Well, it seems as if television executives agree with us; a source recently let slip to the Daily Star that producers are hoping to sign them up for their own show.

“Their friendship was the highlight of the show,” they said.

“Producers can't wait to sign them up for their own programme, which would be a lovely mixture of age and experience.”
