A father in Ohio is touching the hearts of millions around the world after halting his daughter's wedding to call up her stepfather to be a part of the nuptials.
The moment was captured by wedding photographer, Delia Blackburn, who posted it on Facebook on Monday.
It has since been liked by more than one million people, shared over 500,000 times and received over 50,000 comments, which salute father of the bride Todd Bachman for putting aside his differences and acknowledging the importance of his daughter Brittany Peck's stepdad Todd Cendrosky.
“[Bachman] brought his daughter to the beginning of the aisle...he stopped the procession while people were confused at his actions and he walked up to his daughter's stepfather,” wrote Blackburn in her post.
“Todd reached out his hand and grabbed Brittany's stepfather and pulled him down the aisle to walk their daughter down the aisle together. NOT A DRY EYE at the ceremony.
“Families are what we make them...make it about your kids and not your ego. Congratulations Todd Bachman on showing your kids what true love really is...love for your children.”
Two weeks prior to the wedding, Bachman discovered something was bothering his daughter. Knowing exactly what it might be, he told her he already had something planned:
“She was so torn, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be torn,” Bachman told The Chronicle Telegram. “[Cendrosky] has helped me raise my daughter and he should be walking with us.”
He kept his plan a secret until moments before the ceremony, knowing it was only right that both Brittany's fathers gave her away despite his strained relationship with Cendrosky.
“I always wanted to [walk a daughter] down the aisle, and when I married my beautiful wife, Candy, she gave me three daughters,” said Cendrosky.
“I don't have 'stepdaughters', I have daughters, and when Todd grabbed my hand...that was the best day of my life, and I wouldn't change that day for the world. We have become family, and the children's needs need to come first.”
The family have been overwhelmed by the public's response to the intimate moment.
One Facebook user wrote, “What an awesome father to acknowledge the stepfather can love his daughter as much as he can and it not be a competition,” while another added, “It shows how much he appreciates this other man for loving his daughter as if she was his own.”
Peck also commented on the photographs, writing: “Seriously this needs to be shared!! Amazing work Delia D. Blackburn I'm so lucky to have this.”
