Watch: the Broad City series 4 trailer is as mad as you’d hope

Broad City fans will be pleased to know that, judging by the new trailer, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are not dialling back the awesome in the fourth series.

The clip, which you can watch in full below, doles out strap-ons, threesomes, Trump anger, Shania Twain, masturbation and a gun-toting pensioner, among other things – not to mention blowing smoke in the face of an anti-abortion campaigner and turning into cartoons.

Pretty much what you were hoping for?

As well as Twain, the trailer reveals cameos from RuPaul and Steve Buscemi are to come in the new series, which hits Comedy Central on August 23.

Carving out a form of sitcom described by Rolling Stone as “two-woman stoner-slob hangout”, Broad City is executive produced by Amy Poehler and follows broke best friends Abbi and Ilana as they get through their 20s in New York.

Originally a web series, the TV show debuted in 2014 and bagged Hillary Clinton as a guest star last year.

The show is commissioned up until series five, though the writer-stars have previously said they’re not sure where a fifth season would take them.

The trailer will not disappoint fans

“Three [series], in comedy, makes a pattern,” Glazer told The Guardian ahead of starting work on the fourth series. “We’re seeing the patterns in the show and starting to step back and see the big picture of the series.

“We’re getting further from these characters who don’t know what to do with their lives. We are starting to really have real discussions as though [Abbi and Ilana] are our children or something. How far can these characters go? How much they can progress and still be the show?”

Jacobson added: “[Broad City] has a life span, and we would never want to go past that, if that makes sense. As soon as we start to write the fourth season, we might have to really think about that. It’s first going to be about what’s best for the story of these characters.”
