Parody Instagram account Bros Being Basic is the hilarious antidote to all humblebrags

bros.JPG

The world of Instagram is rife with unrealistic images that have been posed, manipulated and photoshopped in order to create the perfect snap of an unattainably perfect life.

By now, we are all familiar with the image of tanned legs posed in front of sandy beaches, the impossibly beautiful ‘I just woke up like this’ morning selfie, and girlie cliques using the hashtag #SquadGoals.

Celebrity Instagram accounts are perhaps most guilty for posting these images but, if we’re honest, we’ve all taken at least one of them at some point. Today, the pressure to create a perfect snap that secures lots of 'likes' on social media, is almost as much as the pressure to have a perfect body, a perfect job and a perfect flat. 'Having it all' now also means having an enormous digital following.

So, to take the seriousness out of all our Insta-envy, a hilarious Instagram account is seeking to satirise the clichéd photos that we so often see on the social networking site.

Bros Being Basic, which launched in 2014 and boasts 314,000 followers (and counting) shows men posing in cheesy situations alongside tongue-in-cheek captions, that mock the ‘basic’ photos we see on so many celeb and blogger sites.

The account was founded by Atlanta-based blogger Ashley Hesseltine and a group of her male friends. It parodies perfect gym selfies, bathtub relaxation pics and other familiar posts, removing the need for onlookers to emulate these images and instead exposing them as nothing other than contrived.

With the tagline “Coffee. Brosé. Pizza. Repeat. Blessed to be basic,” the account also mocks the hashtags people use.

One photo shows a group of men from behind, posing topless in the sea, holding up bikini tops with the caption "Saturbae is for betches, boats, butts and boobies" and several hastags including #SkysOutThighsOut, #BlessedToBeBootylicious and #SeamenStrong. The image has received close to nine thousand ‘likes’.

Another image shows a man in a bubble bath, wearing a face mask and drinking champagne, with the caption: “You guys know how I roll on #TravelTuesday: If you can't make it to Hawaii.....bring Hawaii to you!”

Some images reference stereotypical ‘girlie’ activities such as going for pedicures, cuddling animals and enjoying bubble baths, while others focus on the typically unrealistic images we are often bombarded with, from a flawless yoga pose, to a perfectly-timed hair-flip.

Our personal favourite depicts the classic ‘hot dogs or legs’ pose, but the man’s legs have been drizzled in ketchup and American mustard. The caption reads: “Happy #NationalHotDogDay everyone! I'm celebrating by laying out in my apartment complex courtyard with my fave food.”

The account specifically mocks the use of the humblebrag hashtag #Blessed, in many of the images.

Every picture is priceless. See more on @brosbeingbasic.
