Will Smith’s Carpool Karaoke is giving us some serious 90s nostalgia

Will Smith is a man who needs no introduction.

The actor and singer has been delighting our screens since the early nineties when he starred in cult classic TV programme The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He brought us into the millennium with an album that was the soundtrack to our school discos, featuring hits such as Will 2K and the unforgettable Wild Wild West. And, nowadays, he continues to reign supreme in Hollywood, thanks to his stints in The Pursuit of Happiness, Suicide Squad, and Hitch.

Best of all, though, is the fact that Smith is just as good off-screen as he is on it – and he’s well and truly won us all over with his warmth, wit, and feminist credentials.

So you can imagine how excited we were to learn that Smith has been given full reign to show off his fabulous personality on Carpool Karaoke.

After the phenomenal success of the segment on James Corden’s Late Late Show hosted, producers have decided to take that carpool magic to the next level by pairing up celebrity pals (double the fan-girling).

Instead of following Corden’s route to work, though, the pair will visit a place that’s meaningful to one of them.

Back in April, our karaoke hungry minds were drip-fed a teaser trailer, which saw Smith and Corden getting up to their usual high-energy antics.

Now, much to our joy, Carpool Karaoke:The Series has gone live on Apple Music. Each episode is an indulgent half an hour long, and are available for Apple Music subscribers.

But, thankfully, they’ve treated us to a special six-minute preview of Smith’s episode.

It opens with a view of Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, as Smith and Corden rap the unforgettable 1997 hit, Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It.

It’s a throwback which perfectly sets the scene for the next LOL-worthy 30 minutes: the pair reminisce about Smith’s first ever rap which he wrote aged 12, discuss possible future film roles, go on to visit a wedding and take a helicopter ride – as you do.

You can watch the first six minutes on The Late Late Show YouTube channel, but to experience the full 30 minutes you’ll have to subscribe to Apple Music.

Future episodes look to be an absolute treat, with pairings such as Miley, Noah, Billy Ray and the entire Cyrus family; Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams and John Legend and Alicia Keys.
