Feline campaigners have their say on the EU referendum with #CatsAgainstBrexit

catsagainstbrexit.png

With the EU referendum just a mere whisker away, a group of felines have emerged on Twitter urging followers to vote against Brexit.

Trending with the hashtag #CatsAgainstBrexit, the concerned moggies are said to be worried about the freedom of movement between gardens and the mobility rights of European birds, and believe they are 'better together' with their furry friends.

The trend appears to have started after Twitter user Lilian Edwards posted a picture of her cat along with the first mention of the hashtag, urging followers to make it go viral.

Later, Twitter user Louise Johnson joked that if cats really could swing the verdict, they would probably be more likely to vote 'out' before miaowing loudly to get back in.

Of course, there are also some kitties campaigning for an 'out' vote under the opposing hashtag #CatsForBrexit, and others who are still on the fence…

Pro-Brexit Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan even roped in a true internet celebrity to claim feline support for the leave campaign…

Unsurprisingly, the dogs of Twitter have been reluctant to let the cats steal the limelight. Shortly after #CatsAgainstBrexit started trending, a few canine campaigners added their voice to the chorus under hashtag #Mutts4Remain.
