Create Instagram Gold

From flat white art to glorious sunsets, everyone has succumbed to - or been victim of - an Instagram cliche.

If you enjoy portraying life events through its misty lens, the five tips below are worth scanning:

EXPOSE YOURSELF

Similar to switching from normal telly to HD, Instagram's Lux function takes images you didn't realise could be perfected and makes them a little bit better.

It works by instantly balancing exposure or contrast and is recommended for landscapes and cityscapes.

BIN THE BLINDING FLASH

The flash conundrum: You want to capture an indoor evening scene using an ambient Instagram filter, but get dark, blurry silhouettes. Turn on the flash and your atmospheric shot is clear - in a stark, badly lit horror film, kind of way.

The answer for iPhone users is to invest 69p in an app such as Night Cam or Slow Shutter Cam, while Andoid users can download similar functions, such as Night Camera or ProCaptureFree.

GET SOME DIORAMA IN YOUR LIFE

The diorama effect uses tilt-shift to make subjects look like a miniature scale model - and who wouldn't want that?

Once you've applied your filter, select the drop icon and focus the line or radial tool on the part of the image you want to miniaturise:

FRAMING GOOD SNAPS

Get the digital equivalent of a gilt-edged photo frame by downloading a 69p app such as Diptic.

It lets Instagram (as well as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and Tumblr) users combine multiple images, or style a single portrait across a series of frames.

CRUISE FOR 'LIKES'

Now it's time to show off. The good people at Instagram are insistent on the power of hashtags for garnering affirmation from fellow Instagrammers, and have even come up with three rules for correct # usage:

Be Specific

Be Relevant

Be Observant (Pay attention to other hashtags)
