Baby squirrel wears tiny bandage

We’ve heard some very sad animal news recently. The devastating death of the earless, nameless bunny nearly ruined our week. So we were glad to hear news of a near furry catastrophe averted on a Friday morning.

In what sounds like a scene straight out of The Animals of Farthing Wood, a tiny grey squirrel fell from a tree after tree-cutters chopped a branch she was nestling on down – leaving the poor little mite and her brother separated from their squirrel mother.

Luckily, the couple cutting down the tree spotted Violet and called the Wildlife Aid Foundation in Leatherhead, Surrey, who swiftly came to the rescue. After tending to the bruised and bandaged baby and feeding her a special milk formula, the Foundation Vets wrapped her little injured leg up– and named her Violet after her miniscule purple bandage.

ABOVE: Violet is so small she fits easily into the palm of your hand.

Hospital manager Lucy Kells said of the ordeal: "Violet is a little fighter and is coping very well - I'm really hopeful she will be fine. It's really sad because we have also taken in Violet's brother, Fred, who was separated from his mother as well.”

You’ll be pleased to know Violet is making a speedy recovery, and they hope to release her back into the wild in 16-20 weeks time.
