Fashionista guinea pigs: cute or creepy?

A new guinea pig clothing line promises to make your pet cut a dash in a series of daring designs.

Guinea Pig Fashion, created by designer Maki Yamada, is an online shop based in Japan and offers clothes for all furry-minded occasions in the £5-£12 price range.

Highlights from the latest collection include a guinea pig wedding dress (for the discerning four-legged bride) and a guinea pig hat that comes complete with hair extensions.

"Pet fashion is very popular in Japan; hundreds and thousands of dog clothes exist, but I had never encountered guinea pig clothes," said Maki. "Our products are very popular; customers send us photos of their guinea pigs wearing our clothes almost daily."

Original they may be, but the jury's out in the Stylist office as to whether these quirky designs are inspired or vaguely disturbing.

Make up your own mind by having a look at a few prime pieces, below, and let us know your thoughts on Twitter.

Want to make your guinea pig stand out from the sartorial crowd? Or give it a stylish edge as it romps around its hut? Order now at Guinea Pig Fashion.
