Are you ready for the new Dirty Dancing movie?

Dirty Dancing fans, are you ready to have the time of your life all over again?

ABC have just finished filming a three-hour revamp of the 1987 romantic drama, which saw Jennifer Grey carry a watermelon, and Patrick Swayze captivate us with his pelvic sorcery.

Now, in the remake, Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes will be taking on the roles of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and Johnny Castle respectively.

However, despite being approached by the director, Grey will not be making a cameo for the televised musical extravaganza.

We guess nobody puts Baby in the remake, eh?

"I was asked to do something on that show and I was flattered because I always want to be asked because it's nice to want to be included,” Grey told The Hollywood Reporter.

“But for me, it would be sacrosanct for me to do it because it didn't feel appropriate to me.”

Despite her reluctance to be involved in the filming process, however, the real-life Baby is very excited to see the finished result when it hits the small-screen.

"I am always interested in any iteration of something where they feel there's more to be gotten and I would love to see what it is that they come up with," she said.

"Tommy Kail [Hamilton] directed it and I'm obsessed with Hamilton, so that's thrilling to me. I think they've got wonderful actors in it. I'm going to be watching it and I'm excited.”

Addressing the fact that Breslin and Prattes have some pretty big (dancing) shoes to fill, the 80s icon added: “My only advice is to own it for yourself because we all just do our interpretation.

"I'm only flattered and excited for people who are excited enough to put their stamp on it and see what they make of it and how they make it their own."

Breslin and Prattes will be joined by a star-studded cast for the Lionsgate-produced reboot, including Will & Grace’s Debra Messing as Baby’s mother, Marjorie; Star Trek’s Bruce Greenwood as Baby’s dad, Jake; and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland as Baby’s older sister, Lisa.

Former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger will take on the role of Penny, who, as long-time fans of the film will know, is Johnny’s dance partner. She undergoes a botched abortion while working at the New York resort.

The Dirty Dancing remake is expected to closely follow the plot of the original movie, which tells the story of a young woman who travels with her upper-class family to a resort in New York’s Catskills Mountains in 1963.

Whilst there, she catches the eye of a hunky dance instructor – culminating in a steamy romance, not to mention one of the best movie dance sequences of all time ever.

Here’s a reminder:

Unlike NBC’s Peter Pan and The Sound of Music specials, the Dirty Dancing reboot has been filmed in the traditional manner, and will not be performed live.

A premiere date has yet to be announced, but ABC is expected to air the special later this year.
