Doctor Who premiere to be screened in cinemas

The long-anticipated first episode of the new series of Doctor Who will be screened in cinemas across the world at the same time it is broadcast on the BBC.

The show's 50th anniversary episode last year was also screened in worldwide cinemas, to allow the long-running series' global fans to experience the show at the same time as the British viewers.

Doctor Who's executive producer Steven Moffat said "last November The Doctor didn't just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too. And like the show-off he is, he can't resist another go – one taste of the silver screen is never enough."

"On 23 August, the new Doctor will begin his new adventures on BBC1 and in cinemas all over the world. Movie-land beware – Capaldi is coming to get you."

The first episode of the new series is called Deep Breath and will be set in Victorian London as the Doctor explores his regenerated self. It will be broadcast on the 23rd August, with participating cinemas around the globe to be announced at a later date.

The producers have revealed a series of guest stars and plot premises for the new series, including a glittering cast of British stars. Keeley Hawes, Michelle Gomez (best known as Sue White in Green Wing), Ben Miller, Frank Skinner and even singing sensation Foxes will appear in various episodes throughout the series.

The Hobbit director Peter Jackson has said he would like to direct an episode of Doctor Who

But rumours about other members of the production teams seem to never stop flying. Recently Steven Moffat spoke about the possibility of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson getting involved to direct an episode, saying "I've spoken to him face to face, and he would like to do one."
