Dream come true? A free wine fountain has opened in Italy

Wine lovers, stop everything - you might want to sit down for this one.

A vineyard in Italy has opened a wine fountain, with locally produced red available around the clock - and you don't have to pay a penny. Yep, you heard us.

The fontana del vino can be found along the Cammino di San Tommaso, a popular pilgrimage route in Abruzzo, east of Rome. According to the vineyard's Facebook page, the fountain - which is said to be inspired by a similar site in Spain - was introduced as "a welcome" to passing pilgrims who are encouraged to stop off and fill up a glass.

No drunkards, please

"The wine fountain is a welcome, the wine fountain is poetry," the Dora Sarchese vineyard wrote on Facebook. The vineyard also added it's not a place for "drunkards" or "louts" nor is it a publicity stunt.

The new opening is a joint venture with a non-profit organisation that maintains and promotes the pilgrimage route. While it's not the first wine fountain to be introduced in Italy (we need a full list, please), the owners believe it is the first 'real' site as it offers wine every day as opposed to just special occasions like other fountains in the country.

While we're pretty sure we'll be sticking to one of these bargains this weekend, we certainly hope an alcohol fountain finds its way to the UK - preferably one offering free gin.
