This £13 Norfolk Bacchus has been named one of the world’s best white wines

In a history-making move, a vineyard in Norfolk has landed a major award for its dry white wine.

The Winbirri Vineyards Bacchus 2015, made in Norwich, landed the the Platinum Best in Show medal for the best value white wine made from a single grape variety at the exalted Decanter World Wine Awards.

Judges hailed the wine, which comes with tropical notes of passion fruit and grapefruit, as “the perfect aperitif”.

It’s the first time an English vineyard has nabbed a leading international award for still wine. And even better, a bottle of it will set you back just £13.49 (although it’s currently sold out at most retailers, so you’ll need to order directly from the vineyard).

A total of 17,200 bottles were entered into the competition, which was judged by a panel of 200 experts from all over the world.

Stephen Skelton, head judge for the UK region, hailed the Winbirri Vineyards’ creation as “one of the best wines made from Bacchus that I have ever tasted”.

The family-run winery is set in 25 acres of countryside on the border of the spectacular Norfolk Broads National Park.

It’s not the only English wine to have picked up accolades in the past few years.

So many wines, so little time…
