If 1930-1960 was Hollywood’s golden age and the 1960s and 70s were the Age of Aquarius, we are now – surely – in the age of the doughnut hybrid.
It all kicked off when Dominique Ansel invented the Cronut (half-croissant, half-doughnut) in 2013. Since then we’ve had the duffin (half-doughnut, half-muffin), the wonut (half-waffle, half-doughnut) – and now, thanks to Instagrammer Sam, aka @sobeautifullyraw, the sushi doughnut.
Melbourne-based Sam doesn’t actually attempt to blend the tastes of doughnuts and sushi, which seems wise. Instead, the Instagrammer shapes sticky sushi rice into doughnut shapes using a mould. She then beautifully decorates them with black sesame, ginger, wasabi, cashew, mayonnaise and avocado.
A peek at @sobeautifullyraw’s feed reveals that she is also up for melding sushi with pizza:
Sushi Pizza. For those curious - the little circles are bits of tofu I carefully cut with scissors then fried in coconut oil, tamari & maple syrup @veganeatstoronto suggested I make sushi nachos & sushi tacos.. I'm almost curious to attempt it haha! Thank-you to those beautiful souls who have joined my party so far. I never in a gazillion years thought I'd be doing what I'm doing today. Even looking back at the very first pictures I'd shared (You can stalk me if you want lol) - it's SCARY as to how fast and quickly I'm growing as a PERSON. Real life time. No follower count included. You guys don't get to see that. I try share as much as I can, but yeah - all I can say is this lil ol' gal here is so grateful to even have an internet connection, a phone and a camera to create some magic. If you'd like to join my party, simply 1. Repost any photo of mine, or recreate your own dish and please feel free to take inspiration from anything on this page! I love seeing your creative geniuses at work. 2. Tag me (@sobeautifullyraw) and #Sams90kParty so I can see it. 3. Be awesome.
