Forget the cronut: sushi doughnuts are now a thing

If 1930-1960 was Hollywood’s golden age and the 1960s and 70s were the Age of Aquarius, we are now – surely – in the age of the doughnut hybrid.

It all kicked off when Dominique Ansel invented the Cronut (half-croissant, half-doughnut) in 2013. Since then we’ve had the duffin (half-doughnut, half-muffin), the wonut (half-waffle, half-doughnut) – and now, thanks to Instagrammer Sam, aka @sobeautifullyraw, the sushi doughnut.

Melbourne-based Sam doesn’t actually attempt to blend the tastes of doughnuts and sushi, which seems wise. Instead, the Instagrammer shapes sticky sushi rice into doughnut shapes using a mould. She then beautifully decorates them with black sesame, ginger, wasabi, cashew, mayonnaise and avocado.

A peek at @sobeautifullyraw’s feed reveals that she is also up for melding sushi with pizza:
