The first official photos of the new all-female Ghostbusters cast is revealed

The Ghostbusters reboot doesn't hit cinemas for another year, but fans have been given a first glimpse of the cast in their iconic boilersuits, complete with proton packs and Ecto-1 ride:

The film's director Paul Feig tweeted the picture of Kristen Wiig, her Bridesmaids co-star Melissa McCarthy and fellow cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon kitted out in the matching uniforms, looking ready to obliterate any bother-causing spooks.

Feig, who has steadily been teasing key elements of the reboot on Twitter, appears to have stuck closely to the look and feel of the original 1984 movie.

The most significant change, of course, is Feig's choice of an all-female cast - a choice that made headline news when it was announced in January.

Wiig, 41, told Vulture magazine that she is "excited" that the movie leads are all women, "but at some point it shouldn't matter if a movie is female-driven or male-driven - what should matter is if it's good."

McCarthy, 4, retweeted Fieg's picture with the caption "#WomanPower".

Shooting is due to begin this summer and Ghostbusters due to arrive in cinemas on July 22.
