Glow in the dark sushi

Forget savoury cupcakes or inhalable desserts - luminous sushi is the latest offbeat fad to enthral a nation of foodies...

The glow-in-the-dark dish is made from genetically modified fish designed to give off a fluorescent light. These are typically available for purchase in pet stores - but certain open-minded folk decided to take the concept one step further and make the fish into a special kind of edible treat.

One of the companies to have snapped up the idea is Glowing Sushi, and its cooking trailer, below, has already taken the internet by storm on YouTube. Not all the comments are favourable, however, with various users branding the idea "disgusting" and "stupid."

GM glofish were originally invented for environmental reasons; they are meant to glow when rivers become contaminated, thus flagging up toxins.

Thanks to this latest craze, they're now been used in a range of foodstuff, from kryptonite rolls to stop and glow nigirizushi and even glowing pizzas.

What do you think - would you be up for trying out some glow-in-the-dark sushi or is the whole idea a turn-off? Let us know on Twitter or in the comments section below.
