Did you love Netflix’s GLOW? Then we’ve got excellent news for you

If you’ve been addicted to the Eighties glamour of GLOW, your wrestling and high-legged leotard fix has not come to an end with series one – a second series of the Netflix show has been confirmed.

Executive produced by Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann of Orange Is the New Black, the series is inspired by the Eighties female wrestling league and stars Alison Brie as Ruth Wilder, a struggling actor turned wrestler.

So far, no release date has been revealed.

Described by Netflix as “showcasing big hair and body slams”, the 10-episode first series dropped in June and has been largely well-received, though some have pointed to the fine line between investigating stereotypes and propagating them, and there’s been pushback over one episode’s jokes about miscarriage.

GLOW’s Brie cut and permed her hair for the role of Wilder, and recently spoke to Stylist about making a conscious decision to play a part vastly different to her previous career, having felt “underestimated” and typecast by roles such as Pete Campbell’s wife Trudy in Mad Men.

The Netflix original show has been commissioned for a second season

“I wanted to do something really different and I wanted to look different, “ she explained in an interview. “People have an image of me being a certain way. I don’t even totally know what that is! […]

“It was this whole idea of feeling underestimated or people looking at me and saying, ‘I can’t picture you doing X, Y, Z’, which has never been more showcased than me trying to get this part on this show. They didn’t want to cast me either.”
