Gothic bake queen strikes again with terrifying Gremlin cake series

gothic-bake3.JPG

Exactly one year ago, Los Angeles-based photographer Christine McConnell became an internet sensation when images of her deliciously grotesque and subversive cakes inspired by Tim Burton films and Alien went viral.

In the 52-weeks since, the 33-year-old has been relatively quiet on the baking front, focussing on her photography and recreating old portraits of four generations of women in her family, from great great grandmother to mum.

But, at last, the star baker is back with a new dramatic scene from the iconic 1984 film Gremlins made entirely from confectionery.

"I’ve loved this movie for years and decided to create my own little story combining characters and events from the movies and my own baking," she wrote on boredpanda.com. "I hope you like it!

With a penchant for 1950s fashion and "goofy sense of comedy that came out of the 1980’s," McConnell's work is a brilliant fusion of sweet and spooky. Take a look at her latest masterpiece below.

McConnell started by building layers of caramel pecan turtle cake to make Rambo Gizmo. "I sculpted his eyes out of modeling chocolate and finished them with a clear piping gel for the wet effect."

All was warm and fuzzy until a demonic gremlin burst out of the microwave.

The villainous creature was made from wheat grass and walnut carrot cake and his eye balls were carved out of carrots.
