Infographic shows you how to conquer fear and overcome phobia

Fear hero.jpg

Whether it's holding spiders, climbing to dizzying heights or bananas (no, really, it's called Bananaphobia), the majority of us hold a phobia or fear that prevents us living life to the full.

So, how do you conquer that almighty phobia? It is, by all accounts, no mean feat.  While fear can push us to achieve, it can also hold us back which is why it's important to address it so we're able to move forward with our lives.

Thankfully, we've discovered an infographic that's set to help you work through your phobia and find tools for coping with it.

Using data and statistics from Anxiety and Depression Association of America, as well as other scientific papers, the illustration takes three of the most common adult hang-ups - Glossophobia (fear of public speaking), Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) and Acrophobia (fear of heights) - and looks at how to break the cycle of fear.

For example, for Glossophobia it's first advised that you stop catastrophising, which is the process of believing the worst is going to happen, and realise that it's not the end of the world if you mess up. Secondly, it's important to get some support, so attending a workshop on public speaking is recommended.

Other helpful tips for beating your demon include talking to someone, trying to stop being a perfectionist and also using mindfulness as a tool to change your negative thoughts into positive ones.

Finally, when you do succeed, you should treat yourself to reinforce your achievement.
