Meet the woman taking DIY interiors to a new level

We’ve all been there. You‘ve got an interiors vision that involves finding just the right wallpaper in exactly right shade or print. But quelle surprise, it doesn’t actually exist.

Or it does, but you’ll be shelling out a rather large proportion of your salary on a single roll which, naturally, isn’t going to cover all that much wall.

What to do? Change your grand plans? Tweak your colour scheme?

Not if you’re artist Rebecca Gardom.

Faced with a similar predicament, Gardom, who lives in Liverpool and runs handmade jewellery company The Material Culture, decided to go DIY on her walls.

We’re not talking the sort of DIY Handy Andy from Changing Rooms would have been chuffed with, either. This is on another level entirely.

Faced with a lack of intricately designed printed wallpaper, Gardom decided to satisfy her penchant for ‘abstract’ designs by hand drawing her very own wallpaper prints.

Sharing the details on Reddit, the artist reveals that she bought some rolls of plain white wallpaper, fished out her best pens—a range of fine liners and ordinary coloured felt pens—then got to work.

After drawing the outlines of the design freehand (yes, it truly is impressive), Gardom then began colouring in each section by hand. Which as you can imagine, has been a true labour of love.

“My hubby [has] done loads of the colouring, and so has everyone who's seen it,” she told Mashable, adding on Reddit that friends and family who have popped in to take a look, have enjoyed pitching in with the project too.

With one roll already completed, Gardom, who is in the process of buying her first home, is now deciding where to hang her pride and joy.

While a feature wall in her new bedroom is currently the top choice, a rather ‘trippy bathroom’ has been suggested too.

Regardless of where it ends up, we’re looking forward to pictures of the finished masterpiece.
