First we brought you news of a 24-hour cupcake dispenser in Hollywood - and now the idea has swept across the pond, with slices of cake that are FREE.

In a stroke of marketing genius, Mr Kipling’s is giving away slices of cake in cities across the UK every day from now until 1 April.

The iconic brand has lined up 130,000 freshly baked cakes to give away in set locations across London, Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Birmingham.

The slices come in five different flavours: Angel Slice, Lemon Slice, Pineapple Slice, and the two Easter varieties - St Clements and Simnel Cake.

All cake lovers need to do is head to installation boards at the locations listed below and press a button to release their very own sweet treat.

Michelle Wilde, brand director for Mr Kipling said, "A slice of cake when you least expect it can bring a moment of joy to your day. Mr Kipling Snap Pack cakes are perfect for bringing that little piece of happiness for you to take and eat on the go."

As devotees of all things delightful, we're firm fans of the scheme and are busy strategically plotting our routes home right now...

See below for a video explaining the dispensers and a list of where they're based. Or click here to read about inhalable desserts - the latest food fad to hit the States.
