On Our Radar: Kindness

More Hip than a Hipstamatic.

Kindness has been on Stylist's radar, so to speak, for a little while now. Since 2009 in fact. Ramshackle gigs in sweat-clogged Dalston hideouts, industry buzz and the hype following this year's SXSW have set Adam Bainbridge (that's his real name fact fans) on the ascent of glory. There are three things you should know, should you ever enter into a sonic Top Trumphs face-off and Kindness makes an unlikely subject choice (hey, it could happen):

1. He's genre defiant. Some tracks are shape-shifting disco ballads, reveling in their own idiosyncrasy, others delve into Jamie Lidell-style funk with barely there, minimalist production and a little Kraftwerk oddity thrown into the mix. Music journalists worldwide are baffled.

2. He has a penchant for ironic covers. Eastenders and The Littlest Hobo are two of his favourites. The latter often brings a tear to my eye, somebody give the puppy a home already, he can't roam forever. "There's a voice, that keep's on calling me..."

3. His new album World, You need a Change of Mind is a little slice of frivolity that won't change your world, so much as brighten it for spell.

World, You need a Change of Mind is out now on Female Energy / Polydor
