My Best Friend's Wedding is getting a TV series – how do you feel about that?

In and among all the reboots, sequels and prequels, there have been a fair few film-to-TV adaptations creeping in and the latest may divide fans.

1997 film My Best Friend's Wedding, starring Julia Roberts, Rupert Everett and Cameron Diaz, is set to become a television series picking up where the box-office hit left off.

Was the 1997 film one of your favourites?

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, revealing it was snapped up by American TV network ABC and that it will see “Julianne Potter (originally played by Roberts) navigating her life in New York City, with best friend George (played by Rupert Everett in the movie) as her guide.”

While there's always a risk with adaptations or reboots of well-loved films (My Best Friend's Wedding was one of the biggest films of the year, taking nearly $300 million at the box office), the website reports some of the original team are on board, notably Ron Bass, who wrote the film's screenplay, and executive producers Jerry Zucker and Janet Zuckerwill, who also worked on the original.

As of yet, there are no dates being thrown around although a script is said to have been written.

The film is just the latest to go the way of The Notebook, Little Women and Uncle Buck. Do your thing, TV executives. All we ask is please, no-one touch Labyrinth.
