Netflix’s new horror is basically Fifty Shades gone horribly, horribly wrong

Stephen King – aka the greatest horror writer of all time (we’re big fans, OK?) – is having a moment. Not only has the film adaptation of his iconic It been getting rave reviews from the press, but one of his lesser-known books has also been transformed into a frankly terrifying movie for Netflix.

And the trailer for Gerald’s Game, which sees all of our darkest sexual nightmares come true, has genuinely chilled us to our very bones.

Starring Carla Gugino (San Andreas) and Bruce Greenwood (The People v. O. J. Simpson), the film sees a married couple head out to a remote holiday home in the woods for a spot of romance.

Gerald (Greenwood), though, soon reveals he has an ulterior motive: he wants to reinvigorate their sex life by introducing a little BDSM to the bedroom. It’s not long before the aggressive lawyer is handcuffing Jessie (Gugino) to the bed– but his wife suddenly realises that she’s not into his game. At all.

When Gerald refuses to stop, though, it all begins to go terribly, terribly wrong.

Still handcuffed, Jessie finds herself trapped inside Gerald’s Game – and soon realises that there are no safe words if the other player is already dead.

And, as night comes, she finds she’s unsure whether it’s her imagination or if she has another companion: is someone really watching her from the corner of her dark bedroom?
