Art gets hipstamatic
New exhibition celebrates the iPhone app
A new exhibition of pictures taken using an iPhone app has launched in London - proving that there's quite possible nothing the handset can't do.
The Orange Dot Gallery in London is currently hosting Hipstamatics exhibition (fre, until 31 January), featuring images taken using the iPhone app of the same name. The winner of Apple's 'App of the Year' award last year, the app cleverly gives your pictures a retro, yesteryear look, with an orange tint or blurred edges. All the images in the exhibition are taken from the Hipstamatics blog features the best Hipstamatic photographs, submitted by app users from around the world.
The app was inspired by the 1982 Hipstamatic analog camera, which was designed for artistic impression, as illustrated by original developer Bruce Dorbowski's comment that "It doesn’t matter if the photos aren’t prefect. As long as people are capturing memories, I will be happy."
