Potion cocktails and hidden quotes: a Harry Potter-themed bar for grown-up wizards has arrived

To Muggles, it will look like your average hipster bar straight out of Shoreditch with exposed brick walls, wooden tables and mismatched chairs.

But if you've never quite stopped hoping for an owl to deliver a Hogwarts acceptance letter to your door, you'll want to add this new drinking spot straight to the top of your to-do parchment.

The Lockhart bar which opened in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday, is named after the most fraudulent and incompetent Defence Against The Dark Arts professor of all time, Gilderoy Lockhart, and has secrets hidden throughout for hard-core Harry Potter fans.

A heart-shaped neon sign reading “All was well” is a nod to the closing line of the J.K. Rowling's final book, there is a hidden Deathly Hallows symbol and the decor is designed to look like a modern apothecary.

“Without knowing any of the Harry Potter stuff, you already will think of this as a cool bar. You'd come here and see the stag's head on the wall and go 'Wow, I love that', but a Harry Potter fan might say 'That's a Patronus',” co-owner Paris Xerx tells Now Torontowho runs the bar with Matt Rocks, an obsessive Harry Potter fan.

The ‘Potions and Elixers’ menu features drinks named after characters such as “Befuddlement Brew”, “The Shacklebolt” and “Ludo's Debt”. But one drink is named after a reference so obscure, the owners have promised a free glass for customers who decode it.

Their next goal is to get Butterbeer on the menu, as soon as they figure out a name for it that isn't copyrighted.

And while the food is unfortunately not Harry Potter themed, plenty of attention has been paid to creating the perfect bar-side snacks. From crispy mac and cheese sliders to baked brie with puff pastry, they're enough to keep us full until Butterbeer arrives.

The bar is only open in Toronto but we're hoping British barmen and women take inspiration from this magic-inspired bolthole. Accio cocktail!
