It’s that time of year again – the best bars in the entire world have been announced, and we’re pleased to tell you that several are within staggering distance.

While you’d have to jet to New York (poor you) to sip a mix in the spot taking first place, here in the UK, a whopping nine London cocktail bars made the top 50 – and five of those are in the top 10.

American Bar at The Savoy was named the second best bar in the world

Hot on the heels of number one, The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog in NYC, the sumptuous American Bar in London’s The Savoy hotel came second, while Dandelyan – also a hotel bar, housed in Mondrian London and run by cocktail supremo Ryan Chetiyawardana – jumped 47 places to number three, having last year been named Best New International Cocktail Bar at the 2015 Spirited Awards.

The famed Connaught Bar in The Connaught hotel chased up with fourth.

Announced at last night’s World’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2016 in London (not a fix, honest), the top 10 also featured The Gibson, the highest new entry at number six. The Shoreditch bar was joined by fellow first-timers Bar Termini (Soho) at 30 and Farringdon‘s Oriole (pictured in main image) at 32.

In fact, the capital has more drinking destinations making the list than any other city in the world, though by country, the US has the most overall.

Other London spots awarded a coveted place include Hoxton’s Happiness Forgets (10), Oriole’s sister bar Nightjar (19) in Shoreditch and Callooh Callay (48), also in Shoreditch.

Elsewhere in the UK, Edinburgh’s Bramble returns, marking Scotland’s re-entry to the list. Last year's winner Artesian at London's The Langham hotel dropped to 54 after several staff members left the team.

World’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2016 were chosen by an academy of 476 industry experts from 57 countries.
