Twenty-four hour cupcake machine opens in New York

That's it. We're leaving the UK. We can no longer abide living in a country that doesn't have such a thing as a cupcake ATM.

The lucky residents of New York have once again won at food-related stuff (did someone say Cronuts?), as they've now got a machine that dispenses cupcakes around the clock.

Sprinkles bakery launched the 24-hour Cupcake ATM, which opened on yesterday at its Lexington Avenue store to the delight of anyone who's ever eaten a cake (that'll be everyone, then).

Apparently, a Sprinkles employee said that a queue had formed even before the shop opened at 9 in the morning. And even though it was freezing, a line of people 12 to 15 deep waited in the cold to collect their order.

Once at the machine, the customer chooses a flavor they want, then the robotic arm goes to that location, pulls the cupcake, keeps it level in its perfect little box and delivers it to the door.

The machine is stocked every few hours with Sprinkle’s cupcakes of the day and can serve up to four at once, but flavours include red velvet, peanut buttercup, lemon meringue and Cuban coffee.

But if you don't like cupcakes, fear not, a company spokesperson said they will begin to offer cookies and brownies through the machine next month.

And in case you're reading in the US (hi America!) or you're thinking about heading over to NYC, the pink cupcake ATM is located on Lexington Avenue between 60th and 61st streets next to Nelson’s bakery.
