Ben & Jerry’s vegan ice-cream has finally arrived in the UK

Some things in life are worth fighting for. And one thing that’s definitely worth some fisticuffs is food – especially when it comes to ice cream.

With nearly 15,000 signatures, an online petition launched two years ago pleading for Ben & Jerry’s to bring their non-dairy range to the UK has finally been successful. Vegan and lactose-intolerant ice cream fans can rejoice – as the American ice cream manufacturer is bringing three of its best flavours to our shores.

This month, the iconic ice cream maker is launching three delicious flavours in the UK: the classic Chunky Monkey and Fudge Brownie, plus the new addition of Peanut Butter & Cookies.

All made from an almond-milk base, the new flavours are the first ever non-dairy Fairtrade-certified ice cream in the UK.

Chocolate Fudge Brownie features fabulously fudgy vegan brownies from New York’s Greyston Bakery in Yonkers.

Chunky Monkey is made from banana non-dairy ice cream with chocolatey chunks and walnuts.

With vanilla non-dairy ice cream with chocolatey sandwich cookies and scrumptiously crunchy peanut butter swirls, Peanut Butter & Cookies sounds delightful too.

“Our fans dared us to go dairy-less… and we did! Creating non-dairy ice cream that meets the funky and chunky expectations of Ben & Jerry’s fans was quite a challenge,” said Andrea Ball, Ben & Jerry’s ‘flavour guru’.

“But we’re delighted to confirm the long wait is nearly over! Spoons at the ready to dig in…”

We’re well aware the summer sun has now set, but the thought of snuggling up on the sofa to watch GBBO with said ice cream in hand makes the thought that ‘winter is coming’ more bearable.

And with one in seven people in the UK population thought to be lactose intolerant it’s sure to be a welcome addition to the market.

Priced at £5.99 a tub, you’ll find them stocked in supermarkets across the UK by the end of September.

However, our stateside neighbours have access to the Coffee Caramel Fudge flavour – maybe that’s worth fighting for too?
