Minibar 2.0? This hotel will wheel an entire cocktail bar into your room

Mega Bar 5.jpg

Usual minibar fare: nuts, tiny bottles of wine and a can of simmering resentment at paying £8 for a lukewarm lager you’d never ordinarily choose but laziness got in the way of going outside and finding an offie.

But standards could be set to improve, as one London hotel has just raised the bar on, erm, bars.

Meet the W London Mega Bar – an entire cocktail station, complete with sound system, disco ball and, of course, personal mixologist, just wheeled on into your room like it’s no big deal.

Choose your poison

The custom-designed, leather-panelled 2.4m by 1.6m bar opens up to reveal shelves full of booze, a sparkling disco ball and built-in speakers.

Instead of nursing a disappointing brew from a plastic mug after having battled for five minutes to fit the world’s smallest kettle under the bathroom tap, lucky guests can sip a glass of Champagne or order a creation from the cocktail menu, such as Here Comes The Sun: a vodka, ginger, pineapple and chilli number served in a fresh pineapple cup and accompanied by complimentary sunglasses for that real ‘celebrity indoors’ vibe.

The party package can be booked for parties of 10

Those wanting to push the boat out even further can book hairstylists, beauticians and even an in-room DJ – but of course, living like you’re rich and famous comes at a price. A cocktail per guest from the luxury service is free of charge to anyone staying in one of the Leicester Square hotel’s three suites, and rates start at £440.

Those staying in W London’s top-dollar E-WOW suite can book a two-hour party package for 10 people, including three cocktails per person from the Mega Bar, a disco ball sharer (yep) and posh canapés, from £700.

Fancy this wheeled in to your room?

The service launched in December and the not-so-minibar can be booked via the website.
