Drop everything: chocolate butter is finally here

Hold on to your hats: your usual breakfast staple of warm buttered toast is about to get a serious upgrade.

Just a week after the recipe for the ultimate red wine hot chocolate was revealed, we can now bring you even more exciting chocolate-related news.

Created by the genius team at New Zealand based dairy, Lewis Road Creamery, the chocolate butter is a winning combination of creamy butter and Whittaker's 72% Dark Ghana Chocolate.

As if we needed any more convincing, it also sounds like a (vaguely) healthier alternative to traditional chocolate spreads.

"It will most appeal to those seeking an indulgent, real chocolate spread made from simple, quality ingredients - in this case New Zealand's best butter and best chocolate," Peter Cullaine, founder of the creamery, told the Daily Reporter.

"And, compared to other spreads, there's no palm oil and much less sugar."

The spread is also versatile, and can be slathered on anything from hot toast to a steak, or used in cooking and baking.

While it is currently only available in New Zealand, Cullaine is also considering launching the spread here in the UK.

"One of the things that excites us about it, is that if it does as well as we expect it to do in the local market, then it's a great product for export as well," he added.
