The Chocolate Chip Cookie Grilled Cheese Sandwich is here

Think the Great British Bake-Off has produced some unusual cake creations? This is about to blow them out of the water.

The foodie appetite for unusual sweet/savoury concoctions shows no sign of abating – from Nigella’s salted caramel and savoury cupcakes to the dessert breakfast.

But we think we’ve found the ultimate recipe for all your bizarre flavour cravings – one that satisfies our hunger for American sweet treats (Pretzel M&Ms – why aren’t they in the UK?) and nostalgic comfort foods in one swift bite. We give you – the Chocolate Chip Cookie Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

This insane creation was whipped up by Stef Pollack, the experimental baking blogger behind The Cupcake Project. Past projects have included Cupcakewurst (where you stuff sausage casing with cupcake batter) and cupcakes baked in egg shells – but this gives the humble cookie a cheesy twist.

The recipe divided opinions so much in the Stylist office (verging from “I need one NOW” to “Bleurgh”), we spoke to Stef about why she brought cookies and one of our favourite sandwiches together:

“I decided to make them because I've been eating a lot of grilled cheese recently and I often add a sweet element to it - like bananas or jam. So, I thought, "What if the 'bread' were the sweet element?" I was making chocolate chip cookies anyway for my chocolate chip cookie cupcakes so I decided to give it a shot”

She insists it tastes good too:

“People keep suggesting that it would taste gross. Don't knock it until you try it. It's cookies and cheese - what could be bad? I would definitely make it again!”

Stef also promised more “crazy projects in the pipeline”, so we’ll be watching her blog for more unusual updates. And if you fancy trying the cookie sandwich for yourself, here’s the recipe.

What do you think? Is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Grilled Cheese genius, or gross? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
