Coffee shop creates delicious sweets that look like bugs

How are you feeling this Friday? Tired? Worn out? In need of a sugar rush? Well, you might change your mind when we show you the latest confectionery craze to come out of Japan.

No, these aren't real bugs and grubs, what you're looking at is a selection of VERY life-like creatures, but are, in actual fact, sweets.

Created by a sea-side coffee shop in Japan called Akai Tento no Koohii Ten, translated as The Red Tent Coffee Shop, the creepy crawlies come in an array of different flavours of jam.

The white ‘Kabutomushi Youchuu Gumi’, which resembles a rhinoceros beetle larvae (*shivers*), is filled blueberry jam that can be squeezed out of its chewy bodies (again, *shivers*).

Apparently, it tastes like a yoghurt-type drink. We're sure they taste delicious but we're not sure we could go there.

Despite the fact that the coffee shop is working a fairly small operation here, the bugs have become so popular that Akai Tento has built up a name for itself and has been featured both in print and on national TV and radio.

But the best news (or should that be the worst news?) is you can buy the little things too, you know, if you really fancy taking a bite out of them.

You can buy them in packs or individually from Yahoo! Japan Shopping for £1.72 ($2.80).

We won't judge you if you do.
