Dining out for a living? Sounds like the best job ever

eating out.jpg

Most of us spend the majority of our income on food. What with foodie trends and the UK’s breadth of culinary offerings – not to mention the temporal trend of pop-ups, luring us into eating before time runs out.

But what if things were the other way around, and we were paid to eat in restaurants?

We’re not talking food criticism, we’re talking simply being paid to dine out.

That’s what one woman has just been employed to do. 25-year-old Sophie Hardy from Durham, has just secured a job as an ‘official eating officer.’

Her role will involve travelling around the UK and eating at all of the nation’s favourite restaurants, in order to investigate the health associations with eating out.

Chosen from more than 500 candidates (if we’d known earlier, we’re sure that number would have been significantly larger), Hardy will dine out twice a week to investigate the healthy and delicious options at various eateries.

Speaking to Mashable, Hardy says: “Being chosen to eat out twice week in restaurants across the UK is an absolute dream job so I am delighted to be appointed as the first ever Official Eating Officer.”

“I am excited to show the UK that life doesn’t have to stop while leading a healthier lifestyle.”
