Rejoice! A free rooftop gin bar is coming to London this summer

gin bar.jpg

If we were to roll call our favourite things in life, gin, rooftop bars, freebies and summer would all be hot contenders (alongside karaoke and Gael García Bernal, of course, but that’s a different story).

So, imagine our rapture when we learnt that a free pop-up rooftop gin bar is coming to London this summer, to serve the good people of the capital a clutch of sumptuous-sounding cocktails.

The folks behind Mediterranean tipple Gin Mare will be landing down on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 July, to rustle up concoctions inspired by the spirit’s key botanicals – arbequina olive, thyme, rosemary and basil.

Guests will be able to choose from the likes of a classic Mare G&T with a slice of fresh mango, a cooling Frozemary cocktail and a reviving Basil Smash.

The bar will occupy a prime slice of London real estate, on the rooftop of the IET London on Savoy Place.

Boasting one of the finest panoramas in the capital, the venue will allow thirsty punters to savour a front row seat to the River Thames, the Royal Festival Hall and the London Eye.

Gin Mare has already hosted a string of similar events across Europe – in what must surely be the best road trip ever – and judging from their Instagram snaps, we’d say Londoners are in for a good time:

Alongside the cocktails, guests will be treated to fresh Mediterranean tapas and succulent oysters dressed with Gin Mare – which, we’re assured, fully bring out the unique palette of the liquor.

And the décor is nothing to sniff at, either.

Gin Mare promises an ambient setting that draws from the Mediterranean landscape, with ripening olive trees, fragrant orange bushes and aromatic herbs. Pagodas and white-washed furniture will add to the serene feel of the bar.

Gin-lovers, look alert. To bag your free place from a limited number of spaces, visit medrooftops.com. Oh, and you can be in with a chance of winning tickets to the event with Stylist’s exclusive giveaway here (closes 10 July).

The pop-up takes place on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 July from 6:30pm till late at the rooftop and fifth floor, IET, 2 Savoy Place, London, WC2R 0BL
