You may have already seen the words ‘ice-cream ramen’ knocking about on social media, so we feel it’s important to firstly say this – the dish we are discussing is most definitely not ramen-flavoured ice cream (though apparently that has actually existed).
The scarily neon bowl you see before you and doing the rounds online is a pud from New York’s The Dessert Kitchen.

Though actually neither ramen nor ice cream, the dish (dubbed ‘ice stream noodles’) combines crushed ice with coloured kanten (jelly-like agar noodles) and fruit, drawing ramen-like comparisons as customers choose a ‘broth’ of flavoured condensed milk.
It's been a month since our grand opening! Thank you for your support as we continue to serve homemade desserts. FROM US WITH LOVE. -- #regram of the perfect forkful of Kanten jelly from @patriciachangny

Given it possesses the eminently shareable characteristics of being colourful and food, it’s causing a bit of a fuss online, with one picture on popular Instagram account @feedyourgirlfriend attracting thousands of likes.
I never thought that I will have a lifting noodle moment with any dessert, but now I know I can have one 😁🍜😂🍨🍈 #feedyourgirlfriend 👫 #dessertkitchen . However it's not a particularly unusual combination in east and southeast Asia: in Japan, kakigōri, a dish of shaved ice and condensed milk, is popular in summer while cendol, a jelly noodle dish in coconut milk, is eaten in Indonesia.
So on with the ice-cream ramen, say we. We're just happy it's not some unholy mix of bone broth and Mr Whippy.
"Ice stream ramen" 💙 Neon blue coconut jelly dessert noodles?? Yessss. Pretty delicious, but the service was iffy and they really messed up Ann's order. Don't think I'd ever go back, but it was worth it as a novelty item. #queenkwoneats || 7.5 / 10 ⭐️ (noodles) 3 / 10 ⭐️ (service and other items) || Follow me on snapchat for more foodie updates! ✨👻 Queenkwon

More trendy food - ice stream ramen! Agar jelly ramen "noodles" over shaved ice and condensed milk, with white peach syrup on the side. We liked this one better than the water drop cake :-) #dayofeating #dessertkitchen #fancysnacksforfancybitches #icestreamramen #icecreamramen #dessertramen #agar #agarjelly #shavedice #japanesedessert #nyctourist #nycfood #nycfoodie
