3D chocolate printer goes on sale

Chocoholics the world over are set to rejoice with the news that the world’s first 3D chocolate printer is now available to buy.

The aptly titled Choc Creator – which was built last year by scientists based at the University of Exeter - has the ability to print out delicious chocolatey works of art in 3D.

Dr Liang Hao, the lead scientist on the project, founded the Choc Edge company in order to put the desktop chocolate printer on sale to the masses. According to Dr Hao, operating the machine is easy as (a Mississippi Mud) pie: "You just need to melt some chocolate, fill a syringe that is stored in the printer, and get creative printing your chocolate."

There will be 10 Choc Creators available to buy via auction on eBay - bidding for the first printer (currently at £970) ends on midday on April 20 2012 - and Choc Edge is also accepting pre-orders for chocolate printers numbered 11-100 at a discounted price. This is surely going to add a whole new level of competition to home-baking and cake decorating contests.
